Roadmap Workshop

Discovery

An artifact of a workshop that contains information like customer insights, user needs, business goals, features, and content. The roadmap is often structured into themes and releases to create team alignment and help prevent scope creep.

Example

This example is the resulting roadmap created from a collaborative workshop for the Salmonella 360 project. I facilitated the workshop, which included first discussing the target audiences, business goals and user needs using a vision board, and then the features and content that could support them. Next, we grouped those items using affinity diagramming to discover the overall themes. After prioritizing the items using a bang-vs-buck chart, we laid the items out into the final roadmap framework and sliced out what we wanted to accomplish in the first release and what should come in a future release.

Example

This roadmap example was created for a website to support the launch of Vetrax. The roadmap included the features and content that were going to be on the website at launch and what features could be part of a future release. I divided the roadmap into themes that were formed around the business and user needs necessary for launch and those that were needed eventually.

Pricing Information

A roadmap workshop is a full team, full-day or multi-day session that covers which discussion of a project's target audiences, business goals, and user needs using a vision board, and then the features and content that could support them. The workshop then covers grouping those items using affinity diagramming to discover the overall themes. After prioritizing the items using a bang-vs-buck chart, the workshop's final step involves distributing the items into the final roadmap framework and slicing out what the team wants to accomplish in the first release and what should come in a future release. Roadmaps are great for getting team alignment for the first release of a project and sharing what and how features and content are meeting user needs and business goals.
